London Lines – 05/08

A trip into the big city today with a number of aims. First of all was to photograph and have a ride on the new Bombardier Class 378s that started working passenger services last week on London Overground’s Stratford – Richmond route. 378007 was the unit in service today, several photos below. Secondly, I wanted to take a trip on the Highspeed Javelin service operated by Southeastern. Although not in official passenger service yet, the Class 395’s are running a half-hourly preview service between St Pancras and Ebbsfleet in Kent. We also managed to catch up with a few of FCC’s new Class 377s, and Virgin’s recently refurbished Mk3 set. Enjoy!

OS_DSC_9495_050809_smallThe 378 units are unique in having the only full width corridor connections in the UK. The trains seem to be going well down with punters on the line, who are only too used to tatty 313s with no air-con.

OS_DSC_9551_050809_smallAlthough running to a half hourly frequency, the preview trains are currently very underused. This is coach B on the 1307 St Pancras – Ebbsfleet.
